Others killed in the attack include: Hassan Dogo, son of the Village Head, Bitrus Sarki, Michel Kaka, Dauda Ayuba, Iko Bamaiyi, Emmanuel Shaho and Bamaiyi Fada. The five injured people were taken to a hospital about 120 kilometres away from the village. The District Head of Chikun village, K.M Kantoma described the attacks as “unfortunate”. According to him, their community has never witnessed that type of tragedy. “This has to be investigated,” Kantoma said.

Local Government Chairman of Chikun, Auta Mamman Busa who was at the scene of the incident, described it as “inhuman”. He told Weekly Trust that ten people have been confirmed dead.

Judith, widow of the slain Chukwuemeka, said they initially thought the gunmen were hunters. “Later, we heard people shouting in the church premises but we couldn’t understand their language. They were more than 20 with AK47 rifles. My husband wanted to go out and I advised him not to. The people set fire on the church and headed for our house. They forced themselves in and shot him. He was the last person they killed after burning the church,” she said, adding that the attackers ran off into the bush.

Kaduna police spokesman, Aminu Lawan, who confirmed the incident, said investigation is ongoing. “Our men have been drafted to the area for proper investigation,” he said.
