Ahead of today’s governorship election in Kogi State, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)in the state has alleged that the state government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already hijacked and thumb- printed ballot papers meant for 10 local governments areas.
The ACN, through the Director General of the campaign organisation of its gubernatorial candidate Prince Abubakar Audu, Abdullahi Halims, said the plot was aimed at manipulating the electoral process.
He further alleged that the PDP, in collaboration with some INEC officials, had planned to distribute fake ballot papers to polling units within the 10 local government areas.
Reacting, the legal adviser to the PDP in the state, Umar Mohammed, described the allegation as spurious, saying that it was borne out of the ACN’s fear of losing the election.
In his own reaction, INEC spokesman in the state, Ahmed Bagudu dispelled the allegation, saying that the commission remains committed to conducting a transparent and credible election in the state.
