As PDP’s 2-week ultimatum on waiver to Nyako expires, Atiku may write again to PDP

Governor Murtala Nyako is said to have been out of the country for the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia for nearly three weeks.

The Adamawa chapter of the party, which is controlled by Governor Nyako, was  earlier given two weeks to conclude the process, while Atiku was directed to write directly to the NWC at the expiration of the two-week deadline.

This week former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may be writing hsi letter to seek waiver to Wadata Plaza. He could go to court if denied the waiver.

Speaking to Sunday Trust on Saturday, the state secretary of the party, Mr Phineas P. Elisha, said reprieve was yet to come the way of former Vice President Atiku as members of the state executive of the party are yet to meet and deliberate the issue.

“We have to wait until the governor returns. Then we could consult him because he is a member of the state executive of  the party of this positions and veto power, he should be consulted before any decision can be taken,’’ he said.

Atiku, who returned to the PDP in April this year after his sojourn in the Action Congress (AC), has been having a running battle with Governor Murtala Nyako, who appears bent on stopping him from rejoining the PDP.

While confirming that the former vice president had written a letter to the party seeking “unfettered and unconditional” access to enjoy all the privileges available to members as recommended by the Alex Ekwueme committee as a founding member of the party, the party’s scribe dispelled the insinuation being peddled that there could be sinister moves to deny Atiku membership which is seen as the major hindrance to his request for a waiver.

Article 10(b) (iii) of the PDP Constitution says any party member who loses his membership for reasons other than non-payment of annual subscription may be readmitted on the recommendation of his state chapter of the party made to the National Working Committee (NWC), which is subject to ratification by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

In an interview with Sunday Trust earlier, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, reiterated that the fate of Atiku Abubakar on a waiver which enables him to run for president depends on the Adamawa State chapter of the party.
