The list is made up of 15 foreign based players and 10 home based players namely Goalkeeper Akpan Bassey, Peter Suswam, Saka Ayo, Eneji Otekpa, Emmanuel Anyanwu, Promise Onuh, Valentine Nwanbili , Bunde Moses, Fegor Ogude, and Ugwu Uwadiegu.
Reacting to the list of players, Elijah told Trustsports that the acting coach is simply making use of what is available for him to use.
He said the list of players is a mixture of some of the old and new players and such combination he said is the best as the re-building of a new Super Eagles continues.
Elijah, a member of the 1989 Damaan miracle said the list is okay because the home based players need the experience of players like Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Osaze Odemwingie to gain the confidence they need to succeed at that level.
He said: “The list is a good one because it is a combination of the old and new players. It is good to give the home based Eagles a chance without throwing away experience which can be found in some of the foreign based players”.
He called for patience from Nigerian football fans as he said it will take a long time for the Eagles of their dream to be assembled again.
Elijah also noted that for now, there is no play maker in the mould of Austin Jay-Jay Okocha in the present Eagles but in the near future that problem would be solved because Nigeria is blessed with talented footballers.
