Governor Lamido, who dropped the hint while receiving 19 northern Speakers, who were in Dutse for the Speakers’ Forum Conference, explained that, “an oil expert on exploration came to me nine months ago with an aerial survey showing the floor of oil within Africa.
“To my pleasure, the oil in Sudan sipping through Chad, the oil in Algeria, in Libya sipping through Niger really has a huge valley somewhere around Gumel, Babura, Sule-Tankarkar and Birniwa Local governments of Jigawa State,” the governor said.
He stated that, “With this information, I was wondering if there is commitment on the part of the Federal Government to really explore our potential deposit. Jigawa State sits on strand on the richest oil wings in the world because the river of oil flowing underground in this area is huge”.
The governor also told the Speakers’ Forum that, apart from oil, Jigawa state has many other deposits, including gold and diamond at various locations across the state, saying the major problem of the state was lack of enough resources to handle the situation.
Governor Lamido, however, called on the Speakers’ Forum to look at the issue of oil exploration in the North and in Jigawa State in particular, adding that, “I hope you will, at the end of your meeting, come up with a clear, strong and powerful statement that will mandate your chairman to meet with Senate President and the Speaker to discuss the issue seriously so as to see how they can meet the president and the agencies concerned for them to up oil exploration in the North and Jigawa State.”
Lamido stated that, Jigawa state has more than enough surveys about the emergence of oil in Jigawa, saying what the state needs was support from the Federal Government and the agencies responsible for oil exploration.
