Don’t give up on Eagles, Enyeama tells Nigerians

Making this statement immediately after the match, Enyeama said all hope is not lost, adding that the loss to the Argentine was painful to him in particular and the entire team in general.

Asked how he felt when he was announced as the Man-of-the-match, he simply said he would have loved to see his team winning the match than winning an individual honour.

A single goal from Gabriel Heinze and some brilliance from Vincent Enyeama saw Argentina only beat Nigeria 1-0 in their first game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup despite their dominance throughout the match.

The first half saw Argentina quick out of the blocks as they attacked from the word go. Lionel Messi, as expected, was at his ruthless best beating defenders at will and creating chance after chance on goal.

Had it not been for the sheer brilliance of Vincent Enyeama in the Super Eagles goal, Nigeria would have gone into the half time break four or five goals down.

But Nigeria were saved on numerous occasions even in the second half by Enyeama, who denied Messi, Tevez and Higuain from finding the back of the net, with some spectacular safes.

The Israel-based goalie was deservedly named Man-of -the-match, and to win such an honour by a player from a losing side against the likes of Messi, showed how brilliant Enyeama was.
