Giving this warning at the weekend after the first training match of the team under Coach Lars Lagerback, former Olympics gold medallist said giving more attention to only Argentina in their group is dangerous to their bid to qualify from the group.
Kanu noted that a victory against the Argentines is enough to guarantee the team’s passage to the second round, saying the other two matches against Greece and South Korea are very important.
“Everybody is talking about Argentina. But we have Greece and South Korea in the group. We have to get points from all the three games before we qualify,” the gangling striker said.
Also speaking to Trustsports, Yakubu Aiyegbeni said they are not going to take any of the three matches for granted, saying none of the three matches is more important than the other.
“We are going to play against the three opponents in our group as if we are playing in the final of the World Cup. If we focus more on Argentina, as many people have been clamouring for, there is every possibility for us to lose sight of other two important matches.
“If we beat Argentina, we are only going to earn three-point, which is not enough for us to get to the second round. So, the six point on offer in the two other group matches are very important,” the Everton striker said.
