In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Abuja on Thursday, Hwande said it would be of immense benefit to individuals and the nation in general, if a life of truth is encouraged among Christians.
“If we bury ourselves in the truth of the Holy Spirit, we will discover that everything will fall in line, things like corruption and other vices will definitely disappear,’’ he stressed.
Ascension Thursday is 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the death on Easter Sunday; it is the final act of redemption that Christ began on Good Friday.
On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of his apostles, ascended bodily into heaven with a promise to send the Holy Spirit to inspire them.
“Ascension Thursday is basically a celebration of hope that Christ has ascended our hope in heaven, therefore, earthly things become useless.
“I advise Christians, especially Nigerians, to take advantage of the presence of the Holy Spirit promised by Jesus to energise us and lead us to the truth,’’ Hwande said.
In a sermon earlier, Rev. Iorchir Manasseh, the Deacon, Catholic Cathedral of the Twelve Apostles, counselled Christians not to take every circumstance in life for granted.
Manasseh noted that the Apostles of Jesus Christ went down Jerusalem full of joy shortly after the ascension because they knew that the ascension of Christ into heaven was for their own good.
“Therefore, always believe that whatever happens or whatever circumstances you find yourselves in life, God is in charge,’’ he said. (NAN)
