Speaking to Trustsports after Kano Pillars played a 0-0 draw against Zamfara United at the Gusau Township Stadium, the former Flying Eagles assistant coach said the gap between his club and league leaders Enyimba FC has been narrowed to two points and by the end of the current season, the league trophy might return to the ancient city of Kano.
Yusuf said his players are highly motivated as the Kano State government has remained unwavering in its commitment to the club, giving the players the needed impetuous to take the club back to the continent.
He said “our target is to pick a continental ticket but first of all we want to win the League. We did it before and with the current form of my players, I have no doubt in my mind that we would win the league this season.
“Our government has been most supportive and the fans have been equally wonderful. There is no other way for us to reciprocate their gesture than to win the league. The people of Kano are passionate about Pillars and since they have kept faith with us, we would not let them down”.
Yusuf maintained that in all he and his players will pray for luck to continue to shine on them because the element of luck cannot be denied.
“As we do our best in training and during matches, we would continue to pray for good luck. If our luck continues to shine, it will be easier for us to achieve our set target. So far, things are working according to our plan and we hope it continues this way” he said.
Last year, Pillars exited the CAF Champions League when they were eliminated by fellow Nigerian club Heartland of Owerri at the semi-final stage.
