This was announced by the chairman, National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, NANTAP, Lagos State chapter, Mr. Mufu Onifade, at an event to mark the ITD celebrated every March 27. He said this year’s event will be with the theme “Cultural Diversity and Climate Change.”

“This is a burning issue that will be addressed culturally and intellectually in order to give vent to a global clamour. Our programmes of activities at the Lagos State Chapter of NANTAP, in view of the foregoing will, therefore, run in the following order:

On March 24, ITD 2010 will kick-start with a functional carnival in the mode of an advocacy for a cleaner environment. The carnival, which will involve practitioners and stakeholders, will kick off from Maryland at 9.00 a.m. and terminate at the National Theatre at about 12 noon.”

He added that participants at this yeaer’s event will sweep the highway from Maryland to the National Theatre. This will be done with the support of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) alongside several local government authorities.

Other events lined up to mark the day include a seminar and an exhibition of memorabilia featuring photographs, costumes, posters and properties of plays performed from the 60s to the early 90s . There will also be an awards presentation to honour some prominent contributors to the development of theatre in Nigeria over the years.
