The event took place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Many others were similarly honoured by AGAN including: Dr Shetimma Mustafa, Minister of Interior; Prof Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, Director General of Raw Materials Research Development Council of Nigeria; Dr Dere Arubore Okiy, Executive Director of Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) Benin City; Mr Mazi Samuel Ohuabunwa, President and Chief Executive Officer of Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc; Mr Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo, Executive Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC); and Engineer Mohammed Sani Alhassan, Executive Secretary, FCT Administration.
Addressing guests before the award conferment, the national president of the association, Comrade Michael Egbuta, described the awardees as celebrities in their various endeavours.
He said they were selected for the award because they had made contributions in the agriculture, business and political spheres of the society.
According to the president, AGAN is mobilising members and reaching out to agric institutions nationwide so as to put forward programmes that will tackle hunger, unemployment and poverty in Nigeria by 2015.
He called on philanthropists to assist the organisation attain its goals.
Speaking after receiving the award, the Director General of the Raw Materials Research Development Council of Nigeria said Nigeria will attain food sufficiency only if agriculture is mechanised and commercialised.
AGAN was founded in July 2005. It primarily works with graduates of Agric science to attain food sufficiency in the country.
