Gastro-enteritis: Death toll increases to 41 in Gombe

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammed Isa Umar gave the update while speaking with newsmen in Gombe yesterday, noting that 694 people are now on admission receiving treatment at various health facilities. He added that eight out of the 11 local government areas of the state were ravaged following the outbreak of the epidemic.

The commissioner had made an appeal to the general public to report the outbreak of the disease in their domains to the Disease  and Surveillance  Notification Officers in each local government for immediate  action.

He assured the public that the officials of his ministry and local government councils were intensifying efforts to contain the epidemic despite the fact that there has been no assistance from the Federal Government so far.

The affected local government areas include Akko, Balanga, Billiri, Gombe, Kaltungo, Kwami, Shongom and Yamaltu/Deba.
