Speaking to Trustsports, the federation secretary noted that the country cannot afford to lose her dominance of the sport, adding that it is based on this legacy that the federation is planning to hold National Junior Open Boys and Girls Weightlifting Championship in Lagos between February 16th and 19th, 2010 at the Indoor Sports Hall at the National Stadium, Surulere.
Furthermore, she affirmed that it is in respect of the federation’s determination to show Nigeria’s prowess as the leading country in the weightlifting event on the continent that the federation would be organizing four day trials in Lagos in which those that distinguished themselves would be invited for camping ahead of the championship in Egypt.
Similarly, she hinted that the championship is open to all Weightlifters across the country since it will be used to select those that will fly the country’s flag at the African tourney.
She also, stressed that the African event is crucial to Nigeria being the most respected nation at the African youth event just as she said continental representatives at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games will be selected.
Aluko however affirmed that the federation has sent invitation letters to all the 36 States including Abuja to ensure that their lifters attend the four days championship stressing that those who excel at the event would be called to camp in Lagos immediately.
