Much later, Sani Danja, who was involved in an accident on the Kaduna-Kano expressway in April, was in South Africa with D’Banj and other ambassadors of the Glo brand—Sunny Ade, Sunny Nneji, and Pasuma. On that occasion, Danja was representing Northern Nigeria and, when he got into a discussion with D’Banj, he found that the southern musician was keen about doing something that would, in the words of Danja, “seriously make meaning to Northerners”.
These two encounters stroke a cord in Sani Danja, who had been thinking of “doing something with the people of the South”. So Sani got not only two but five artistes from the South for a collaboration and selected six out of his already recorded songs for a remix.
The result of that is an album, “New Guy in Town”, featuring D’Banj, Tuface, Rugged Man, Aşa, and Sasha, which, he hopes, will be on the shelves within the next 10 weeks. One guy who has not been able to make it into town is Olu Maintain, who was also in Kano four years ago when Danja had his discussion with Tuface. Perhaps he is on the next collaborative train—sorry, album.
