The team, made up of some soldiers and the special anti-vandal squad of the NSCDC have been keeping vigil on the dreaded spots of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) pipes located in some areas of the state. When Oodua Trust visited the dreaded NNPC pipe route at Ogere, the team was spotted at the key entrance of the zone. It was learnt that the team acted on a tip-off and immediately condoned off the area. The army team, numbering about 10 officers, was conspicuously seen heavily armed with weapons, while those of the NSCDC could not be confirmed. A top source confirmed that the soldiers were often invited by the NNPC to give support to the Corps.
The Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Corps in Ogun state, Ogbonnya Dike, who confirmed the development to Oodua Trust in a telephone call, said that it was normal routine. “It is a regular patrol by our anti-vandal unit of the command. We are always in the area, just like any other NNPC zone in the state.”
