Ago, who toured all the wards in the council, said, based on records, there are about 60 boreholes in the local government but less than 30 were functioning, a development which made it difficult for some communities to have access to potable water. He noted that preserving water sources was a collective responsibility of the government and the people using the facility.
He said he had revived over 30 inactive boreholes as part of efforts to provide potable water to the people and reduce the outbreak of water borne diseases.
The chairman said, in order to keep the boreholes working, 11,000 litres of diesel, three drums of engine oil and filters had been distributed to various communities.
Gashua, the headquarters of Bade local government and the adjoining villages, have been in the news for having many cases of kidney failure, and experts have attributed the problem to poor nutrition and bad water.
