Buhari, Osinbajo take 50 % pay cut

The Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, told State House correspondents that Buhari’s decision to take a 50 percent pay cut was conveyed to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) yesterday by the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Mr. Nebolisa Emodi.
Shehu quoted Emodi as writing in the letter with reference number PRES/81/SGF/17 thus: “I write to forward the completed IPPIS registration form of Mr. President and to draw your kind attention to Mr. President’s directive that only 50 percent of his salary be paid to him.”
The presidential aide said the annual remuneration of the president of Nigeria as published by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission is N14, 058, 820.
He added that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has similarly given up half of his official remuneration.
President Buhari had on Thursday rejected a proposal to purchase five new armoured Mercedes S-600 (222) cars for his use at the cost of about N400 million.
Shehu State had told House correspondents that the president turned down the proposal for new cars in line with his commitment to the prudent management of the nation’s resources, stressing that Buhari would continue to use the cars left by his predecessor.
