Military assets to undergo audits

The Defence Headquarters will improve on the training of personnel and the serviceability rate of equipment by conducting regular audits of existing assets.

The Minister of Defence,  Mansur Dan-Ali, stated this on Wednesday while addressing State House reporters after presenting to the cabinet,  the status of the implementation of approved capital projects and achievements of his ministry  from 2015 to 2017.

He said he also informed cabinet of the ministry’s determination to improve its administrative capacity in the areas of procurement management, projects monitoring, accounting and auditing systems.

He said his presentation covered  the strategic policies of the ministry aimed at  building and maintaining flexible, compact and highly trained armed forces capable of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

Dan-Ali said prior to President Muhammadu Buhari’s assumption of office,  most of the military platforms and hardware were old, worn out, non-functional and obsolete.

He said the present administration had e made tremendous efforts in the provision of funds for the acquisition of modern military hardware in order to meet up with security challenges.

The minister said he proposed a way forward for the implementation of a comprehensive reform of the entire defence management system with a view to promoting effectiveness, transparency, accountability and self-reliance.
