Why Buhari is the ultimate winner

If Buhari is declared loser after the elections, he returns to Kaduna with his integrity intact. Once there, he would have to walk to the bank manager to reschedule his pay back of the N27 million he spent to buy the presidential form. The other money and things he used for his campaign were either loaned or donated to him by those who believe he is the Izal needed to sanitize the system or to gain from their investment. The first group returns with bruised ego, while the second can count on hard times because Buhari does not negotiate with sleaze. To quote Jafaru Isa, it was not in his character thirty years ago, it is not in his blood in 2015. Indeed, they would be lucky if he fulfills his promise to draw a line in the sand with barely enough left in the till to survive on.
If Buhari loses, the entire nation is in serious jeopardy. Naija is broke. Yes my F9 in Mathematics is boldly highlighted the two times I attempted it. I can’t count any better than the Sesame Street character Gary Gnu. But, I have read somewhere and without denial that the works ministry has slashed its budget from N100 billion to ten billion. That never happens in an election year in the works ministry. Something is definitely wrong here.
We see our Naira pushed to the edge of the cliff; it slipped and fell, flailed its hands in desperation and without rescue, it is finally sinking under its own weight. In my travels, only in Turkey (yes, the country not the bird – silly!) did the possession of a few dollars make me an instant millionaire. I never thought I’d live to see the day the Naira would fall like humpty dumpty but the American dollar has trounced our national currency. Our prime minister is too confused to understand what is going on or it’s simply beyond her.
If Buhari loses, I bet the old man would be watching from his window as this government tries to calm a very angry nation. If Buhari wins, he had better have a solid relationship with western nations, enough goodwill to get a visa and travel ban on all the current ruiners of our economy, their wives, concubines, priests, prophets, Imams, babalawo, boka and dibias. Otherwise even the IMF would not be able to save him from drowning his promises in a sea of debt. I warn again, I don’t know math but the economy is failing.
This election, dear countrymen is a do or die for the ruining party. It is apparent that it is not just about fulfilling the prophecy of ruining Naija for 60 years, sixteen of which has been fulfilled with dire repercussions; it is about cooking the books to present a facade. What cannot be cooked is the collapse of governance and infrastructure. Yes, Ogbeni is having sleepless nights in Osogbo now but so are 22 other state governors groaning under the weight of wages alone. I am not a Soludo fan but that debate might help.
Now, why is President Jones so desperate to remain in power? He knew he was only good enough to play second fiddle to a retired squadron leader before luck transformed him into acting governor, governor, then vice president…and you know the rest. So, to have been given one chance to take us on a one-chance ride should be enough for him. By the admission of his propaganda crew, he is young and agile enough to give Usain Bolt a run for his legend and Hifikepunye Pohamba a run for the Mo Ibrahim Leadership Prize next year. So why is he a Christian on Sunday morning; a Muslim on Friday evening and sweating under fraternity regalia on Wednesday afternoon – moving from shrines to grotto? A drunken sailor presiding over a sinking ship should be happy to switch captainship except he is afraid of what the vigilante might find.
President Jones cannot rest. He is afraid of his own shadows. Yet, to quote his wife, all the Ghana-Must-Go he’s sharing and the nocturnal meetings must answer. This Buhari has tried thrice, there’s nothing new in the geopolitical lexicon that calls for the junket between pulpits, mosques and shrines, except the skeletons are reeking so bad it is making sleep in the only safe haven in Naija – the Rock of Offence impossible. That is the only thing that explains the desperation and the word is – you can postpone people power but can’t stop destiny.
