Alhaji Rabiu Nunku, a stakeholder in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) told Daily Trust, yesterday that he was not surprised with the result of the March 28 presidential election where the president-elect lost in the state to the candidate of the PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan.
“The APC in the state has no roots firm enough to deliver a presidential candidate. Yes, the party was able to deliver its governorship candidate and other candidates; it is obvious from the result of the two rounds of elections that Nasarawa people voted their own, and not the party,” he said.
He said the recently conducted general elections proved that Nasarawa has no place for Buhari, and that the electorate made a statement to show that the state is no ground for the APC to take roots.
“The campaigners of the president-elect could not penetrate to the grassroots. They went round local government headquarters, campaigning for themselves. And they won their elections. But for Buhari, it is clear his party is not on ground in the state to deliver him,” Nunku said.
He said the PDP would bounce back to victory at the presidential election in 2019, adding: “in Nasarawa State, the party will reclaim not just the governorship position, but the majority in the state legislature.”
