LP candidate drags Bayelsa dep gov to NHRC over assembly poll

In two separate petitions to the two authorities, Ogbe alleged that the deputy governor orchestrated the violence and rigging in his quest to install the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
He further alleged that he was threatened at gun point by thugs, but rescued by DSS operatives during the election, urging the IGP and the rights commission to investigate the deputy governor for allegedly instigating violence in the area.
He added that he was accused of fighting the deputy governor for insisting on contesting the election on the Labour Party platform.
In the petition to the IGP made available to our correspondent, Ogbe alleged that the violence was aimed at disenfranchising the people of the area, noting that the plan worked very well as voters ran for their lives, while those who insisted on carrying out their civic duties were brutalised.
“I had expected a peaceful, free and fair election, where genuine winner and loser would emerge. But to my surprise, the leadership of the PDP unleashed violence on voters, who they suspected were not ready to vote their candidate.
“A good number of my supporters and agents were injured, and subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, they are responding to treatment, and are ready to be interviewed in future to throw more light on how and why they were attacked and injured.”
