APC, PDP trade blame over religious politics

The APC, which first issued a statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, alleged that there was a plot by some politicians to use religion to gain political advantage.
The party said the plot was in line with the track records of those who have consistently used religion to divide Nigerians in order to feather their political nests.
It alerted Nigerians to a fresh plot by desperate politicians to circulate leaflets in mosques and churches, asking Muslims and Christians to only vote for candidates of their faith.
APC reminded Nigerians of a recent attempt to use religion as tool to win votes, when Vice President Namadi Sambo said the PDP has more Muslims than the APC, and that the APC vice presidential candidate is a pastor who runs 5,000 churches.
However, the PDP in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said it was the APC that is guilty on religious politics.
The PDP said the allegation by the opposition was “an unintended leak from the APC’s massive arsenal of religious bigotry and viscous divisive politics.
“Here is the APC running with the hares by pretending an ally of the people while ravenously hunting with the hounds by harvesting from the fissures on our fault lines, all in an attempt to sell the unmarketable in its presidential candidate.
“Such a barefaced, thoughtless statement from a political party notorious for false alarms, deceit and pernicious propaganda is another  auspicious window into the warped mindset of the party that flaunts  messianic wherewithal,” PDP said.
