Electricity: Abuja Disco loses allocation by 100mw

The media head, Ahmed Shekarau, in a statement yesterday, appealed for understanding from electricity customers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over the issue of load-shedding, which he said has become more visible in recent times.
The statement read in part: “The situation worsened in this particular month (February), with average daily allocation to the Company from the 1st to the 13th of February 2015 standing at 290megawatts (MW) as against the average of 390MW within the same period in January, 2015 as well as in December, 2014.”
Managing Director of the Disco Mr. Neil Croucher in the statement said, since November 2013 the company has never fallen short of the 11.5% of the load allocated to it by the system operator.
“When there is extra load in the system, we have always taken it with the consequence of payment of imbalance penalty,” he added.
The Disco said despite the shortfall, it was compelled to give special consideration to certain strategic institutions in Abuja, such as the airport, security agencies, hospitals, and other strategic government buildings requiring constant supply.
