Countries advised to prioritise health allocation

An official of the department of health governance and financing, World Health Organisation (WHO) Tessa Tan-Torres Edejer, made the remarks in Harare, Zimbabwe, at a workshop on Accountability Loop Budget Advocacy (ALBA), for stronger health budget advocacy.
Making a presentation on Fiscal space analysis and the need to implement the 15% Abuja Declaration for Health, Tan-Torres Edejer noted that governments have to institute checks and balances that would reduce wastages and misuse of funds in the system.
Noting that most countries would face hard times, she advised that strategies should be put in place to prioritize programmees and project that would ensure greater benefits for the people.
She added that groups advocating for increased funding, or better use of funds must also know the appropriate times to do advocate and the right actors to mobilize.
Earlier at a panel session by civil society organization, the Nigerian representative from the Evidence for Action, Dr Aminu Magashi, noted that it was time for earnest advocacies to be made to government to release funds made for the purchase of family planning commodities.
