Governor Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the governorship contest in Imo state
Announcing the results of the supplementary election held in 23 local governments of the state on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s returning officer Prof. Ibidapo Obe said Okorocha polled a total vote of 416, 966 to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate Emeka Ihedioha who scored 320, 705 votes.
INEC had declared the April 11 governorship polls in Imo inconclusive after the number of votes nullified exceeded the figure the APC candidate led that of the PDP who came second.
The electoral law demands supplementary election to decide the eventual winner in such circumstances.
The returning officer also announced that the APGA governorship candidate Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho polled 28,434 votes.
Prof Obe said a total number of 782,526 valid votes were were recorded.
In the supplementary poll, 24,239 votes were recorded and in the whole, 806, 765 voters were registered.
