Lagos: Agbaje congratulates Ambode

Oba Akiolu, Tinubu, celebrate Ambode’s win in Lagos

The Iga-Idunganran Palace of Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos and the residence of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Ikoyi went agog on Sunday evening, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Also, thousands of APC members thronged the State Secretariat of the party on ACME Road as soon as the governorship election result was made public and started rejoicing, while waiting for the governor-elect to join them.
Within few minutes after the result of the election was announced by INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate put a call through to the winner and prayed for God’s guidance for the administration.
“I just called Akinwunmi Ambode to congratulate him on his victory. I wish him well and pray he will be successful in guiding this state,” Jimi Agbaje said on his tweeter handle.
The INEC Collation Officer for Lagos State, Professor Isaac Adewole had, while announcing the final result, said APC scored 811,994 winning outright in 15 states, while PDP scored 659, 788 to finish second in the election.
Responding to the outcome of the election, Asiwaju Tinubu congratulated APC supporters across the state “for their unflinching support that saw them through the challenge from the main opposition PDP.”
In his own response, Governor Babatunde Fashola said the victory was well-deserved, noting that he had said it repeatedly that Ambode is the man fit to take over from him.
