The Assistant Inspector General of police in charge of zone 6 Calabar, Tunde Ogunsakin was on Saturday directed to leave Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
Ogusakin was charged to oversee the Rivers State election and ensure that police officers deployed for the election maintained neutrality and were professional in the discharge of their duties.
Police were accused of compromising and working in the interest of a particular political party during the march 28 Presidential elections.
No official reason was given for the directive, but security sources said the order is from above. Governor Amaechi had earlier complained about a particular top police officer who he accused of working for the interest of a particular party.
A top aide of the AIG confided on reporters in Port Harcourt that the AIG was in Calabar as of the time of filing this report.
The AIG had addressed mobile policemen redeployed from various police units to Port Harcourt, where he charged them to be professional in the discharge of the duties during the election.
