The Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shehu Shema has declared that the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will continue to rule the State after today’s election.

Musa Nashuni of the PDP is contesting against former Speaker of House of Representative Aminu Masari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the State’s Governorship position.

But, despite the fact that the President elect, Mohammadu Buhari of APC is from Katsina State, Governor Shema is confident the PDP could still hold its own in the state and retain the number one seat.

“We are hopeful, we are confident that the PDP will continue to take the State,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Governor has assured that there won’t be any crisis during the election in the state, stressing that the election has been peaceful across the state based on reports from the field.

“Just like the last election, the conduct of people is  in keeping with  the law. I believe this election will be a landmark.

“We have taken every step to secure the state. Elections in the state have always been peaceful. It is usually the aftermath of the election where you have the skirmishes like in 2011.”

He however, assured that steps have already been taken to forestall a repetition of the 2011 incident.

Shema implored the people of the state to continue to be law abiding.

“I’m asking them to cast their votes peacefully and accept the verdict that Allah wishes for us,” he said.
