Accreditation of voters commenced in Ekiti State as early as 8am, though INEC electoral staff arrived polling booths by 7.25am with election materials.

While large crowd of voters were noticed at some polling booths, in some areas, only a few people were seen on the queues. Our correspondent also observed the presence of more security men at the polling units compared to the March 28 presidential election when some booths were without security operatives. Deputy governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, said it was too early to conclude that there was apathy to the exercise since accreditation ends at 1.30pm.

He commended security arrangement at the polling units, adding “I believe the security is up to the task. I don’t expect PDP to lose the election.” Similarly, the Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said he expects a very peaceful poll since “we were able to avoid bloodshed in the March 28 presidential election. What I have pleaded for is that we should see ourselves as brothers. So, don’t do things that will cause serious damage to the polity.”
