Kaduna card readers crash

Several card readers deployed in Kaduna by INEC for the presidential and National Assembly elections failed.

A voter at Unguwar Sarki, Dauda Adamu said people arrived as early as 6am at polling unit 28, but the officials came around 10am. He said the card reader was faulty and none of the officials could rectify the fault until 12 noon after the arrival of some engineers.

At Unguwar Dosa, a voter, Salisu Suleiman, said the device failed to work at Polling Unit 022 and no one was verified by 1pm. “The card reader was taken away by INEC officials to an unknown place for repair. It is about 1:30 pm now,” he said.

At Hayin Banki, Madunka Unit 018, a voter, Usman Sabo, said the device failed but was repaired around 11am before accreditation commenced. “A man came here with a device with long antenna like a mobile phone and stood behind the election officials for while. Few minutes later the Card Reader stopped. It resumed after about 20 minute and we are suspecting that the man must have caused a jam.”
Chief of Staff to APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, Colon‎el Hamid Ali, urged INEC to extend voting period in areas where there was delay.
