The Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group (ISDMG) has urged the Federal Government to investigate and prosecution of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief John Odigie-Oyegun over the violence that marred the just concluded National and state assembly re-run elections in the state.
The Director Mobilization and Communication of the group, Ms. Faith Nwadishi told reporters yesterday in Abuja that the build up to the election was branded by highest display of irresponsibility of politicians making unguarded utterances and callous call for breakdown of law and order.
“Pockets of violence ranging from dynamite explosions, intimidation of election officials, ballot box snatching and outright death reported in Gokana local government, characterized this election. Reports from ISDMG field observers indicate that elections were quite peaceful and voter turn-out impressive except in some LGAs where peace was not the case. This includes Gokana, Akuku-Toru, Andoni, Tai and Khana local giovernemnts. It cannot be said that there was any huge divergence from what happened previously and now,” Nwadishi said.
