33 dead in record Sokoto road crashes

At least 33 people have been killed in road crashes in Sokoto State in the last one month.

FRSC Sector Commander in Sokoto, Sani Hamzat, who disclosed this said the crashes occurred between November 5th and Sunday, December 4th this year.

According to him, three persons died in the first crash that occurred on November 5 at about 1.30am at Kasarawa village near Sokoto.

Hamzat explained that it involved an articulated vehicle loaded with over 200 bags of onions and 37 passengers.

The Sector Commander said 27 persons died in the second accident that was recorded along Sokoto to Goronyo highway involving a vehicle with 100 passengers.

Three people died in a third accident involving an articulated vehicle with 37 passengers.

The accident occurred last Sunday along Sokoto to Illela highway.

He disclosed that 25 other passengers sustained injuries.

The sector commander noted recurring cases of over loading of vehicles in the state and often with livestock.

He described safety on road as a collective effort and  stressed the need for all to contribute their quotas towards achieving the desired result.
