The Kogi State Government yesterday said the staff verification exercise it carried out was not meant to streamline the state’s workforce to a predetermined number of staff but to weed out ghost workers and unintended beneficiaries.
The State Auditor General and Chairman of Staff Screening Review Committee, Alhaji Yakubu Okala, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the level of its screening review exercise and salary payments to workers in the state, saying,
“This is an open government and the governor has never at any forum directed the committee to streamline the number of civil servants to a particular number. Government is not interested in sacking workers.”
