The producers of fast moving consumer goods should be held responsible for the waste generated at production stage and as a bye product in order to ensure a cleaner environment.
The managing partner of Prigem Concepts Limited, Owa O. Raymond, who made this known in a statement, said corporate environmental responsibility is necessary to ensure that all hands are on deck to check environmental nuisance.
He said residents need to move from the use of polythene bags, which he described as non-biodegradable, to recycled paper bags, which can be produced from organic wastes.
He said such efforts would guarantee a safer environment and municipal solid wastes should be removed from the roadsides and called for concerted efforts at checking the menace.
“World Toilet Day was celebrated recently and open defecation is still the order of the day as it concerns the people in the suburbs across the nation where majority of the rural-urban migrants settle,” he said.
“But a situation where public toilets are provided within the urban renewal, with the intention of piping to the digesters for conversion into bio-fertilisers through PPPs, will see to cleaner cities across Nigeria and keeping water and airborne diseases away and more eventful agricultural practices,” he said
