The Gender Equality bill currently before the Senate should enjoy accelerated passage without going through the rigours of debate, Senator David Umaru has suggested.
The senator representing Niger East Senatorial District at the National Assembly spoke at the weekend while donating sewing machines and some undisclosed amount of cash to 450 women that graduated from skill acquisition training in fashion designing and tailoring under the sponsorship of his constituency office.
Umaru said the women over the years had shown that they were fundamental to the development of the nation judging by the performance and contribution of a few who were privileged to be appointed or elected into leadership positions.
“The Gender Equality Bill at the Senate does not need debate for passage because of the strategic role played by women in the country and even as pillars in most homes,” he emphasized.
