Man goes to ‘extreme lengths to dodge fare’ by clinging to the back of a tram

A motorist couldn’t believe his eyes when he spotted a man clinging to the back of a tram as it travelled at 30mph. Dashcam footage taken from behind the vehicle shows the fare avoider – dressed in a black hoodie, blue jeans and black and white trainers – crouching low on the back of the red tram. He can be seen clutching a white carrier bag in his right hand, while his left hand grabs onto the tram’s wipers for dear life. The man causally hops off the back of the tram as it pulls into a stop in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, wiping his brow. Keen to hide his face the man pulls his hood back over his head as a passenger walks around the corner but the elderly man on the pavement can’t help but stare at the extraordinary sight. One man commented on the video: ‘Unbelievable, things people do to save money, he could’ve fallen off and got hit by a car.’
