The Unilever UK has invested N7.5 million in the construction of borehole and a business outlet in Dabara community of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.
Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo, consultant to Technoserve Sunlight Water Centre (SWC), managers of the project also announced the donation of 40 water carts and 50 number 160 litres of water containers to the community for the launch of the project by the company.
He said the project was part of the new initiatives to engage business solutions in resolving the water challenges of rural people.
He explained that the water project will be handled by a woman, who will run it for 10 years after which the ownership will be transferred, noting that the investment will be recouped after 10 years through shareholders efforts.
“A team comprising the woman running the business, the owner of the land on which the project was built and a four member advisory board will get a percentage of the business. This way the investment is secured for the benefit of the entire population,’’ he said.
The District Head of Dabara, Alhaji Umar Chidawa, promised that the community will do all it can to secure the project, while also urging the people to patronize the water because of its safety.
