When all hope is lost

Were there times you lost all hope and instead dwelt on how unfortunate things had turned out for you in life? It is common for women to easily give up on life, especially when they are in a difficult marriage situation. A lady narrates her situation.

“Life is really not easy and my husband isn’t helping the situation. The only thing I think of now is suicide as marital crisis, financial crisis and spiritual attacks have weighed me down. I have prayed until I can pray no more. I am afraid of my children becoming motherless but the pressure is too much as I’m giving up on life entirely.”

Maureen Attah, 42-year-old civil servant, says, “Many have been there and came out strong. As women we are prone to face various challenges that will push us to the edge. Tough times will surely come but we should not lose hope and look for people to pet us, instead we should develop tough skin to brace the odds. No marriage is a bed of roses; in fact life is generally not a bed of roses.”

Fatima Suleiman, 39-year-old biologist, says “I always use my mother as an example whenever I see a woman trying to give up on life. She took care of five children on her own. She was sent out of the house because my dad took a second wife. Most African women are strong and are always victorious at what they set their hearts at doing and I saw that with my mum so I believe this woman in question won’t be an exception. This life is only for the strong and not the feeble minded. Brace up and receive the spirit of a fighter and conqueror. You will win because that is the only choice you have. She can’t give up now; she has come too far to give up.”

Adebola Kunle, 41-year-old teacher, says, “Committing suicide will not solve the problem, instead it will only commit her children to a life of suffering.  In my religion committing suicide is a first class ticket to hell as its clearly stated in the holy books that God does not accept any one who takes his/her life. I’ll advice she tries to get someone to intervene in her marital crisis and she should remember that no marriage is perfect and also learn to live within the limits of their revenue.”

Nkiru David, 43-year-old accountant, says “Life can sometimes be tough and heart breaking but then all hope should not be lost. Most times when life becomes tough I sit back and look back at the old times and moments that have been great, then I’ll realize that nothing is worth committing suicide for. This coping mechanism has worked for me several times and I’ll suggest that she finds herself a coping mechanism also. We are women, we are Africans, we are winners, we never quit. She should hold on to hope for the sake of herself and her children and have it at the back of her mind that once she is gone the children will suffer and the spirits of those children will never forgive her.”
