Telecom customers fume at high charges

Telecom customers in Jos, Plateau state yesterday, fumed at what most of them described as “exploitative charges,” on unsolicited text messages from the network operators.
They expressed anger at the regulatory body, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which they tag as looking the other way, while operators are having a field day with practices that should attract them some penalties.
The Telecom users took turns to speak during a one-day customer protection forum called; Customer Town Hall Meeting of the NCC, where all the four major operators were represented. Da Jacob Gyang, a traditional ruler, and two youth corps members, Peter Odetola and Emmanuel Adams particularly complained about the automated text and call messages attracting ‘exploitative charges’.
Others took turns to raise issues with the NCC, which they accused of failing in its regulatory role in digging its’ feet to ensure that the texts and calls do not come again.
