At least three persons were drowned while farm produce worth millions of naira were washed away by flood in Hayin Gwarmai village of Bebeji Local Government Area, Kano State.
The deaths occurred on Sunday night after a flood that followed a downpour in the area washed the people away. The rainfall was said to have lasted for hours, Daily Trust, learnt.
It was gathered that many houses were affected by the disaster thereby rendering many people homeless.
Confirming the deaths, the Chairman of Bebeji Local Government Council, Alhaji Muhammad Mudan Bebeji, said the flood also washed away many farmlands in the village.
The chairman said he has already visited the affected village, condoled with the families of the deceased and sympathised with those whose houses were affected by the flood.
He appealed to the affected communities to exercise patience, as government would soon offer some assistance to them.
The chairman also called on the state and federal governments to come to the aid of the affected people, saying “the affected residents are in dire need of relief from all tiers of government.”
