Court remands teenage driver in prison custody for killing 3 in Zamfara

A magistrate court (I) sitting in Gusau, Zamfara state capital has remanded a teenage driver identified as  Nasir Ahmad in  prison custody over dangerous driving resulting in the death of a lady and two other persons among other offences.

 
Last week, Nasir Ahmad driving a Mercedes Benz car on top speed in Gusau metropolis ran over three persons and they died on the spot.
 
The family of one of the victims who was identified as Hauwau Haliru, and a final year student of state owned School of Nursing and Midwifery sued the accused  seeking for justice.
 
The prosecuting officer sergeant Ibrahim Aliyu read the charges to the accused as follows: Driving without due care, failing to produce particulars on demand and causing deaths by  dangerous driving and the offences are contrary to section 21,23, and 39 of RTL respectively.
 
The accused pleaded not guilty of the the charges read to him. Meanwhile, the presiding judge Justice Umar AbdulNasir ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody till 20th February 2018 for further hearing.
 
However, Daily Trust learnt that pressure is being mounted from different quarters including top government officials  on late Hauwau’s family to with draw the case for out of court settlement.
 
A close family member who spoke with our reporter said despite the pressure they would still pursue the case deligently to ensure justice is done on the matter.
