The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has trained 1, 500 personnel in Arms handling to tackle the Herdsmen/farmers clashes.
While speaking during the decoration ceremony of newly promoted personnel of the Corps on Wednesday in Abuja, Commandant General of the Corps, Gana Muhammadu, said part of the newly trained personnel will be deployed to ensure the success of the Agro-rangers programme.
"Just last week Friday, 1,500 of our men graduated from a three months Arms training in preparation for the commencement of Agro-rangers and Solid Minerals protection.
"And part of which we also intend to deploy to Borno to join the earlier 3, 700 of our men posted to liberated areas in the North-east," he said.
Meanwhile, some of the 3,953 personnel recently promoted were decorated at the occasion.
Gana who urged them to be dedicated to their duties, noted that the federal government had given the corps additional tasks.
"So, you must not fail the federal government and the Board who ensure your promotion," he added.
The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau who was represented at the event by Bassey Emmanuel, tasked the promoted officers to live above expectations.
"With your promotion, you must continue to work harder… Again, you must be loyal to your organisation, to the nation and all those that have been placed above you."
