NIWIIT urges women, youths to use IT positively

The deputy president, Nigeria Computer Society, Mrs Ola Veronica Owolabi, has called on youths and women to use information technology positively.
She made the call during the inauguration of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT) during the 26th National Conference and Exhibition of the Nigeria Computer Society in Abuja recently.
“From the primary and secondary schools we catch them young, so that instead of using information technology in a very wrong way, they will use it positively to their advantage. That is one of the most important things that NIWIIT does,” Owolabi said.
While inaugurating the council, the president of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Prof. Adesola Aderounmu, urged the new executives of NIWIIT to continue to uphold the standard and virtues of the profession as they take on their new roles.
The new president of NIWIIT is Florence Babalola and the treasurer is Hauwa Yahaya Abubakar. The new exco will serve from 2016 to 2018.
NIWIIT is a group in the Nigeria Computer Society which provides a voice for both professional and non-professional women in the IT industry.
It also reaches out to girls in secondary and tertiary institutions in a bid to catch them young and increase the number of women in the fields of information technology.
