The federal government reinstated the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Professor Usman Yusuf, Daily Trust reliably gathered on Tuesday.
A top official of the health ministry confirmed to Daily Trust that the ministry has received a communication from the Presidential Villa Tuesday night.
“The NHIS executive secretary, Professor Usman Yusuf has been reinstated today (Tuesday). The Minister of Health, Prof Adewole got the letter of the reinstatement this evening (Tuesday),” a top bureaucrat said.
Professor Yusuf was suspended in June last year by the Minister of Health Professor Isaac Adewole because of his refusal to oblige to series of monetary requests by the health ministry, Daily Trust investigations have shown.
A committee set up by the minister accused Prof Yusuf of “corrupt expenditure of N292 million allegedly spent on health care training “without recourse to any appropriate approving authority.” Prof Yusuf has since denied these allegations.
