A Kano based businessman, Alhaji Sabitu Mohammed has secured the release of 30 inmates from Bauchi prisons.
The businessman who is owner of Jifatu Stores located in Bauchi pays fines for the inmates to secure their release on Wednesday.
Represented by Alhaji Musa Ahmed Jama’are, he said that the gesture is part of their humanitarian services and social responsibility to their host community.
He also pledged more support in the near future.
In his remark while presenting the payment cheque for the release of the inmates, Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleman Adamu called on philanthropists and Non-Governmental Organizations to always pay regular visits to prisons in order to give support to the inmates where necessary.
The Emir who was represented by the district head of Jahun, Alhaji Aminu Yakubu, commended the initiative of Jifatu Stores and called on others to emulate them.
He called on the released inmates to consider their release as another opportunity to begin a new life that will benefit their immediate communities, the state and the nation in general.
In his remarks, Assistant Controller of Prisons in Bauchi State, Madu Gimba, commended Jifatu Stores for coming to the aid of the inmates who could not afford to pay their fines.
He said that the money has helped to facilitate the release of the inmates.
He also called on them to be of good behaviour after their release.
Responding on behalf of the released inmates, Malam Isa Abdullahi thanked Jifatu Stores for the gesture and pledged that they will go out as changed people who would contribute to the development of their respective communities.
