The leader of the Shi’ite group in Sokoto state who was allegedly shot by the Police during one of their free-zakzaky campaign in Abuja, Malam Kasim Umar is dead.
He died on Monday at an undisclosed hospital in Kano where he was said to have been receiving treatment.
Umar who was 50 years old was said to be leading the procession when he got shot in the leg that eventually led to his death.
His son, Muhammad Qassim Umar first broke the news about the death of his father on Facebook, reaffirming their loyalty to their spiritual leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Elzakzaky.
Similarly, one of the leading members of the group, Malam Sidi Mannir who confirmed the death to our reporter, appealed to their members to remain calm and to continue praying for the deceased.
“He died as a martyr. We are thanking God for that and pray for the repose of his soul," he said
According to him, the remains of the deceased would be buried tomorrow Wednesday in Sokoto.
The deceased is survived by one wife and four children.
