Over 5,000 women cooks are to be employed for Sokoto state homegrown feeding programme scheduled to start March, this year in the state.
The school feeding programme is a components of the social investment programme of the Federal Government under the Vice President’s office.
Commenting on the scheme, Programme Manager, Sokoto Homegrown Feeding Programme, Musa Abubakar Girkau, said the cooks were chosen from the localities where the 1,700 public primary schools in the state are located across the 23 local government areas.
He said the pupil would be given breakfast for five days at N70 per child for each meal.
Girkau said the school feeding programme had commenced in 22 out of the 36 states of the federation and FCT.
He said though preparation for commencement of the programme in Sokoto had started close to a year ago, there was delay arising from the selection and validation of cooks.
