Govt spends N1.6 billion to augment workers’ salaries

Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State said that his government has expended over N1.6 billion to augment civil servants salaries and allowances between January and May this year.
Al-Makura who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ahmad  Ahmed, at a media briefing yesterday in Lafia, said that from January to May the state government received N9.7 billion to settle about N11.4 billion for salaries, allowances and overhead, and that the state allocation for January after deduction from source was N2.234 billion, the highest so far in the year, and that the state paid salaries of N2.‬ 321 billion, leaving N87.3 million deficit.
He added that the worst hit was April when the state received N1.6 billion from the federation account and settled N2.4 billion salaries and allowances and got a deficit of N810 million.
