Daily Trust reports that speculations about the postponement had been rife in Plateau state.
PLASIEC chairman Fabian Ntung today at press conference confirmed the postponement.
He stated that the postponement followed a communication received from the State Security Council which advised that the present security atmosphere in the state was not conducive.
Ntung said, “in line with the foregoing advice, the commission wishes to inform the general public, especially stakeholders in the political process in the state, that the local government council election in the state which was earlier scheduled for Saturday, 17th February 2018 is hereby postponed until further notice.”
Our correspondent observed that PLASICE had held meetings with the various political party leaderships shortly before the press conference.
