We need state of emergency on education

I commend the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, for announcing that a state of emergency will be declared in the education sector. Indeed, it is long overdue.

The standard of education has dropped abysmally and if we care about the future of the country then something must be done urgently.  There is a need for the relevant authourities to take a holistic look at the education sector; make changes where necessary and review some policies.  Our graduates should be able to compete with their counterparts in other parts of the world.

Today, people come out of school and they are not employable. They practically do not have anything to offer. We must change the narrative. We should also consider the plight of teachers across the country. You cannot expect a teacher who has not been paid or who is paid peanuts to give his or her best. All stakeholders should come together and address this problem as a good education is the bedrock of a developed society.
